Default PG1 Gearbox - or swap.

PG1 Gearbox

Itís not for sale as such but if you want to make and offer please do (not strictly within the rule I know so say £50).

I got the gearbox when I bought the car from Richie and donít intend to fit it. I really want to swap for a R65 box that I can build up & put a taller 5th gear in and then drop straight into the car. I know all the arguments for fitting a PG1 but I donít want to have to start making alterations to the sub-frame etc. I donít intend ever taking it onto a track and pushing it that hard.

So does anyone want to swap a R65 for a PG1?

Iím in Northumberland so a bit out of the way for most people.

Hi Adrian,

This box is from an mgf vvc and i believe commands a premium from the MGF people, so might be worth advertiskng on ebay or the likes.

As for R65, i believe you want an R65U from a late rover 111 (1.1 litre). You might find one breaking on ebay

Hope that helps,
Richie.

I have to comment but haven't got the R65 box needed.

The VVC box (code C4) is what I am currently running in Phoenix. It's great for track use but revs a lot on motorway so you would not gain anything from the swap from your current R65.

Even if you did want to do the conversion, the non VVC (C6) would be a better option.

I agree with Richie, sell on either a MG F or ZR selling group.

Cheers. I'm might just do that Richie.

I've heard the saxo 5th gear is high so might also look out for one of those.

I think I still have my R65 sat on the trailer gathering rust! I'll check tomorrow but you can have it for nothing if you can pick it up.

EDIT:- got internal gearbox linkage as well somewhere

No problem. One will turn up. I need to get around to making some effort to advertise the PG1 box. If I trip over it again in the garage that might spur me on.
