Well the Allegro is still at a friends but I'm fully stocked on donor cars lol

Decided to go for a mems3 160 setup instead

Added a touch of comfort to the mancave, will have to get the wife to come in and hoover lol

Also I have been measuring a metro gti rear anti roll bar, its so close that I have to get one and see if we can make up some mounts.

Got this as my next donor, got the car delivered and yep the head gasket appears fine. It's got an oil leak from the timing side crank seal though and oil level wasn't even registering on the dip stick. Hmmm filled it up and drives fine but vvc mechs may have suffered!

Garage makes it echo but still rather loud!

Haha I will do soon, just going to leave it runnable till I need it. Hopefully starting building the cage this weekend, that is going to take a good few weeks alone!

Metro Gti rear arb offered up, have ordered the brackets that go on the drums, going to use adjustable rose joints and weld mounts onto the bottom of the boot floor with some more steel. Hoping to mod the rear beam to take the coilovers too, after the cage is done, might be a while lol

Made a start on the roll cage today. 3mm plates formed and welded to the sills, main hoop tacked in and one of the A pillar bars.

Going to take a few more weekends but a big part of the project is underway at last.

Floor fixed too!

A pillar bar tacked in, it'll go a bit more vertical once the windscreen bar is in place

Couple of bits for the rear anti roll bar turned up, will have to take the drums off again to fit the brackets, rear beam has to come off at some point though.

Rubber bump stops will have to go, along with the rebound straps.

Main roll cage frame done today and fully welded, next job is to clean the welds up a bit and paint the top before it goes back up, then the rest of the bars can be welded in.

How are you gonna weld round the top of the cage? Are you gonna cut a hole in the sill and drop the cage through it to get round the top? Just wondering incase you haven't thought it.

Already welded it all, cage drops down just enough I had considered cutting the floors but made the legs have a couple of inches drop for access instead, I'll add that back in then it will all be boxed in anyways, the legs are sliced in half up the vertical and sit on the sills with 3mm plates welded on them.

Made some card temples for the rear arch boxes.

Thanks It's gone pretty well so far. Only bit I'd do different is that I measured it all with the headling in, ordered it then took the headlining out. Doh - the main hoop has gone up a bit but the front section would have been a bit further into the roof. Also would have been good to have a bend on the windscreen bar to follow the roofline rather than it being straight.

Have sat in it and the windscreen bar is higher than the rear view mirror mostly so not in the way as such. Considering cutting it out and getting a new bit bent.

Aye the windscreen bar on my cage follows contours of the mini, suppose it's like that for a reason? But then if it isn't in the way and its solid is it worth the hassle of cutting it all out etc?

Probably not worth it, but if Im doing it then now is the time before the whole thing is welded in place. It would look better but might not be as strong. Should be alright with some padding on i think, doesnt restrict vison by more then the top inch of the windscreen. Will have another sit in the car and make my mind up.

Did you make your cage or was it a kit? No kits for Allegros!
