Tried the engine in the frame. It's starting to look a bit Mini-like again when I just tried the wings on

Today was trying to get the rad in and the bonnet to shut. It's getting there slowly

First fit - bonnet won't close fully as hitting top of rad so ..

I trimmed crossbrace under bonnet for rad clearance

Also had to grind away the edge of the ribbing for the front gear box mount to clear the bottom rad hose

I had to modify the headlamp bowl to clear the rad. Thanks to a tip from Kam on his build thread, heat it up with a hot air gun and shape.

Also had to bend the lip on the edge of the rad to clear the head

The exhaust manifold doesn't really fit (as discussed before - the H&S manifold has been ordered). If I could tig weld and had a lot of time it could be modified but I can't and I haven't

Made some rad mounts and welded them in to the frame. Note the front gearbox mount webbing has been ground away for the bottom hose to fit

And added some extra alternator clearance courtesy of a big hammer and some mole grips

I've hit a pretty major issue with fitting the front panel

I've had to email Olli at Custom-Minis to try and find out what's going on as it's not even close to fitting around the front bar and await his response.

I'm not a happy bunny at the moment

I had held off posting pics or commenting more as I wanted to give Custom-Minis a chance to respond to my message & photos but 2 weeks later I've heard nothing so here they are:-

Here are 3 pics sent from Olli at Custom-Minis of my frame fitted to a Mini

and these are the pics showing how much the front crossmember sticks out beyond my front valance which we had to butcher just to get and idea of how much out it was - it was a brand new heritage panel

(the bumper lip is bent up because the rad mount is tight up against the valance and has pushed the panel outwards so it bent up)

It sticks out pretty much as far as the outer edge of the bumper lip !!!

If you look at the first pic in post #158 above you'll see how far from the gear box the inner rad mount is, then look at the 1st of my pics in the above post and see how close the gear box is to the front panel. If I tried to fit the rad I'd have e to cut out as far as the bumper for it.

Basically my only option is to cut away the front crossmember completely and weld in a new crossmember closer to the block. Once my H&S manifold has arrived and trial fitted I can judge how far the crossmember can come back.

I've managed to reposition the rad a bit further back towards the engine but as it's sitting that bit more vertically the bonnet wont close again so when we remake the front crossmember I will also try and lower it slightly by the rad so I can sit the rad lower to clear the bonnet so it will close again.

I've even got the motor mounted as far back in the frame as the mounts will allow

It can't go back any further as the diff has sod all clearance from the steering rack
