Bottom end by the sounds of it.. started lacking power on the start finish straight, then death knock, then no oil pressure, then recovery truck home basically... only managed a few laps

Just to keep this up dated...

After stripping the old engine I found 1 cracked conrod, oil pickup full of bearing shavings and silicone sealer and the engine oil was a nice shade of metalic silver... Yes proper job

I did get this picture that I like, Fair amount of body roll that needs looking at

Now moving on, today I bought a complete MG ZT 1.8 turbo that's going to donate its engine to my Mini!!!

Yep soaked the bores in diesel for 2 days, then whacked the pistons with a mallet and block of wood in anger but it wont budge!

I can still get some photos of the seats for your mate if you like?

Yeah sure!
He's still interested.
Be worthwhile holding on to the engine too, I'd use it for a big power build because you'd need to strip it and start again anyway.

If you remove the head the crank/ liners lock up so the pistons would not move anyway however hard you wack them, I think you need special tool to clamp the liners down though the block.
