Itís a driveshaft, goes into the gearbox and will bolt to the back of the engine on the bracket and then the other shaft slots into that, itís made in 2 pieces to reduce torque steer

Engine looks to be late C20XE ( LAST Type) This had the Ecotec plug cover but is not actually an ecotec. This was done on some to allow the engine to be used in a category of racing a bit longer. i think touring car championship. It had about 145bhp max. Its a coil pack lump . To be certain look up the engine number as someone may have just used the ecotec plug cover instead of the nicer Vauxhall one.
This engine will most probably have the downgraded components inside that differ from the earlier engines, but still be OK. So not as good crank, not forged pistons, non coscast head, heavy flywheel etc etc. As I say check the numbers though and you really never know unless you take the lump apart.

Just use that engine. Early redtops are getting hard to find and cost more. Getting 175 - 180 hp is cheap and really is a a DIY job,Carbs ( bike or 45's) . Dizzy from cavalier or H&H Ignition, Bogg Brothers bike carb setup etc. 200hp gets a bit more involved with more expensive kit for eith ITBs and management or More engine mods and 45's. I never bothered and just run the std management and engine + some Nos.

Driveshaft is the long side, its a split shaft. when you offer it up to back of engine it will be obvious where bracket bolts to block.
