seen this and thought of you G, hope you're not puttin bumpers on! but more to the point, his indicators are behind the grill, an option for yourself maybe if you've got room? looks tidy. more pics here http://s140.photobucket.com/albums/r...Sam%20Clubman/ but cant really see where the indicators are, would like to see a pic of the hazards on.

cheers for that mikka thats def a idea if i cant source any sidelight/indicators

anyway not posted for a few days as ive been so so so : grapesedoff:issed off: issedoff:

while tidying the wires up that run throw my new box some how it melonsed the black ecu plug up AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!

and made it so the car would not start again : blowup:issedoff :

just as my mate came up to see her started lol (everytime he comes to see her running it does not

anyway after pulling the black plug apart and rewiring it (approx 6 pins had pushed to fart back and would not stay in place)

at last it all seemed to be working again (was clicking at right times, fuel kicking in and sparking )

so all back together and box refitted with light socket now in correct place

as you can see i mounted the inerica switch, light socket and fuel filter to it ,makes the bulk head look so much better

next was to test she is running again,as YES SHE IS and hopefully thats the end of the prob with the ecu plug!!!!!!(but i have another one on its way just incase )

so this is for my mate matty (just incase next time hes round its not working again
[URL=

next was to wire the horns in and test the alarm system (hopefully it will all work like it should

I did not connect the horn to the 5as. I open the doors too many times without disarming the alarm. Flashing lights I can handle, but the horn going off is too much for me!

Well done though!

power cable gave up the ghost today
so only had a few hrs as the light was going

anyway was putting the front on and noticed that now the lights are in the front the drivers side bowl was so so so close to the timming cover i was worried that if the engine moved even 1/2cm it would smack and break the light

so i remebered that someone had earlier in my build posted this might happen and best way round it is to heat the light bowl up and mould it so its pushed away from the timming cover , so of course this is wot i did and it worked

thanks to ever sent me that idea

mounted the ecu up again and that was about it total waste of a day but as well as no light it was freezing !!!!

oh i did do one more job lol fitted the gear stick covers ! to stop any water getting up through there

carpet back down ,jobs a good one

and stuck my old mini gear stick knob back on

as it got dark i thought melons it lol ,put the front on ,plugged the lights in and took her for a spin

WOW that made me could not floor it as every 50m where i am theres a speed ramp antill you get on the main roads so only got into second gear but even second made me so

(wish i still had a brake servo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mind you ive never set the bias valve up!!!! may only be breaking at the front!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

so came up with the idea of making a new bracket thats much like a cup that the motor will sit in with rubber in the cup so cant earth

was that cold i did the cutting in the house (thank melons the wife is at work )

all welded up and ready to fit

and guess wot NO FUCKING GOOD LOL back to the drawing board

went back to basics lol nice and simple design

quick paint

weather to cold for paint to dry quickly
wifes at work

10 mins later it was dry
all fitted and bolted in

i knew my new box would come in handy lol can bolt alsorts to it pmsl

still been thinking about a remote terminal for the + off the bat so i dont need to open the box for jump starting etc
been on flea bay seen some remote terminals but from wot i can make out there only a few rubber washers each side and a rubber peice going throw the bulkhead with a bolt ,so ive been thinking about this idea

a steel washer on the out side edge of the rubber gromets so the bolt does not pull all the way throw the hole and i think that would work,be safe and cost about 10p

wot do you all think? good? or deadly?

well been allowed out to play on her again at last (bloody xmas lol)

anyway was going to try making a remote bat terminal but after reading the posts when i asked wot people think i agree and am waiting till i can get a proper one

so thought i would have a go at fitting the wheel arches BUT after test fitting to the rear of the car its no good im going to have to sort out this(was going to leave it but think it will spoil the final look of the build if not sorted)

esp when u see it from this view which is the back edge of the wheel between the wheel and rear scuttle

and even more of a reason to is this

had not realised till now how much it had also throwen my shocks out
as you can see with the above pics i def needs doing

first thing is to get to the rear beam ,just took the lots off

now i can get to the beam to take it off the car

now the prob im going to have is its a aluminium beam ,can i just chop it straight down the middle(on the below pic where the inspection/spanner holes are)

but if i do this can i weld it a mig with it being aluminium?????????????
i would prob get away with bolting the cut off piece back on (it has bolted in blocks running through the beam, which i will cut in half to marry up with the new thickness which will be approx 1" instead of the 2" that it is now)

will just need to weld the nuts on to the beam as its hard to get to them now even before making the beam 1" thinner

there is a way to mig weld aluminium but it involves changing rollers and wire and gas..... to be honest it is complicated and really the best way would be to tig weld it.

is the beam aluminium or steel?

good looking build by the way!

Looking good griff!

Would it not be easier to just cut a mini subframe down and bang some M16 (or similar) bolts through the heelboard? And use that instead? Would put everything in the right place...

well after reading ref welding ally im a bit

but never the less if i dont try i will never no lol (and if not work i will just get a steel beam and fab it to the same diamenstions as this one or if i can find a cheap subframe just chop that down)

also ive found a friend that can weld ally (but would pref to do it my self if poss like i have everything else on the car )

any way here goes ,a few measurements

a bit of cutting with the grinder and here u go

all clamped back together to make sure i not cut wrong

it was 2" thick ive chopped 3/4" out and should still be able to get to the bolts throw the acsess holes
just need to reweld it now

well first day back playing since newyear

and at last shops are open again
my mate has let me down ref alloy welding so beam want be welded till im back in work in a few weeks

so melons it i went and got a steel beam, the man at the steel place measured it and gave me the beam
got the melonsing thing home and it was 1/4 to thick isse doff:
so was back to square 1 but at least seeing its steel i could mig it

anyway cut out wot i did not need ,rewelded it and begain marking out for drilling and shaping

8mm holes like before, but im going to cut a hole in the back if it so i can weld the nuts to it for the radius arm brackets !!!!!!!! (as before it was a real pain trying to get your hands in to hold the bolts)

going to cut the top section like it was on the alloy beam so it fits high and tight to the boot floor (but will be tom just before test fitting )

and now its the width i wanted gone from 2" width to 1 1/4" so once refitted the wheel should be more or less spot on

also hopefully tom my new water exspantion bottle will arrive its off a jag and the dif shape should mean it will mount higher so better water flow also it has a sensor in it to say if the water is low pre warning incase of hg failure

Excellent m8. That is what I used for mine. It was free from work and rude not to use it..

Shame you cut the old one up m8. You could have got money for it on eBay...

I am building something special for the rear so keep your eyes open...

well managed to get the ally beam TIG welded up today
but have decided that if the steel one fits im going to use that ,so if in the future i need to do mods i can weld it my self!!!!!!!
(so going to repaint the alloy one and ebay it )

anyway cut the beam to shape today

and cut the back out so i could weld the bolts in ,of ease of fitting

fittted some tubing in the box section to help strenght it where bolts fit

next was to weld in the nuts and the tubes

nicley penetrated ,they want move
quick paint

jobs seems a good one, time will tell lol, hopefully tom it will fit
