I will hopefully be getting my short block back soon with new pistons, big end bearings and I was wondering is there any way to prime the oil pump before starting and anything else I should do before I turn the key for the first time.

you could crank it over without the plugs in for 30 seconds or so but its unnecessary, thats what assembly lube is for.

I unplugged the injectors on my K series and cranked it until the oil pressure light went out, I also pre-filled the oil pump as well as using Torco assembly lube when I built the engine.
