Thanks all - I'm really pleased with the body and paint work, really looking forward to building it all back together!

To be honest selling the itb's to Daz was probably a mistake but you live and learn!

I'm currently looking into inlet manifolds and exhaust manifolds options.. I'm no expert so any advice would be great. Length / size etc etc

Hi Mark,

Looks really good as always...

I just can't do such nice finishes as I always end up scratching / denting / generally fecking it up, it must take so much more attention to detail to turn something out like this.

Cheers

Thanks very much but I'm not so sure! Your work is beyond epic and I'm still very jealous!

If you ever fancy building a loom...

Yeah sorry for the hijack Mark. The paint looks fantastic. Not sure if Alex Crosse comes on here anymore but it was his plan to build a long stroke 1800 so maybe PM him for advice?

Hijack - sounds good Daz, sounds expensive

Inlet needs to be 300mm from the top of the valve to the throat of the trumpet for max performance on the 1800.

Cheers Burnard, yep that will give good mid range torque and top end power.. I've been reading up! Means the custom inlet needs to be about 90mm.. Let's hope it will all fit!

Only thing I'm struggling with at the moment is the sump, the x18xe1 sump doesn't fit in the allspeed frame, so I used one from a x16xe - that needed a fair bit of modding including a chopped pick up pipe.

I'm not really happy with it - I now have another sump from a z18xe, going to test fit that this afternoon.

I will report back!

In what way does the sump not fit?
Just out of curiosity really. Are there any pictures?

Front left side catches, all the small block sumps are different - some also use gaskets others don't. Sorry no pics of this.

I'm guessing it's an ally sump isn't it?
If there is a fabricator near you, or someone to can weld ally. Why not just cut the sumo around the frame and weld a plate in?

Fitting a suitable sump was a bigger job than I first thought, basically the 1800 sump of any variety will not fit the all speed frame.

In order to get the 1800 sump to fit you would have to cut and refabricate a fair amount, this would include rerouting and oil return. I didn't fancy that.

Next I considered cutting the frame however I think it would weaken it far too much so I haven't gone via that route either.

I opted for the 1600 sump and a modified oil pick up pipe, the 1600 sump takes a gasket where The 1800 block does not however both faces are flat so I have used gasket sealant and hope this will prevent any leaks.

All in all it was a bit of a ball ache.. Fingers crossed it all works when I get running!

Would the 1600 oil pick up pipe not fit with the sump better than modifying the 1800 one, or are they totally different?

I always thought the 1600 and 1800 used the same block?

I take it the bolt pattern between the 1600 and 1800

The 1600 8v had a steel sump. Same shape as the alloy one but obviously easier to modify
