Paid £23 for them ...plus a whopping fiver in postage Shaun, supposed to do a lot more with the midrange? Back when the Swift was new Cars and Car Conversions did a bit on trying to mod the engine .. I seem to remember the consensus was that the cam lift and timing limited it a lot as standard ...that why I've been on the look out for something better. I've timed them as standard with some vernier cam sprockets, to be honest the Kent grind was so good it was almost pointless ... I could have just stuck with the factory sprockets. When it gets warmer I'll fit the lump and give you some feedback ...it's got to be better than the one I'm running at the mo as the current one has zero oil pressure when it gets warm ...one of the inlet cam bearings in the head is shot, once it gets warm it just allows the oil pressure to drop away. |

sounds brill,,yes ajst cam spockets are a bit of a gimmick!! not saying they don't have a job but you bee surprised how many times they end up exsactly where the standard one was,
can you remember the aprox year of the car an car convertions did that article? I have them all, can try to find it

It was a Dave Walker era car - CCC got hold of an Swift GTI and had it as a project car.
I seem to remember it being a Mk2 so that would mean late 80's to early 90's? He pulled the head off and flow benched it ...said the limitation was mainly with the cams....at the time nobody made better cams. They also featured one in the series they used to run where they tested your race / rally car ...that one was a Mk1 and had a good few probs I seem to remember. IT was CCC that got me into Mini engine swaps ... they featured a Lancia based clubman and then featured the 1st ever KAD 16 valve head ....I remember reading that copy in the car park after I had purchased that months copy from WH Smiths ...I was shocked even then how much the KAD stuff cost. |
