Firstly my FWD setup is very battered & bent so I'm not happy to continue down the same path only for the same damage to re-appear after a couple of years of abuse.

I have fancied RWD (or 4WD) since the hillclimb clocks showed how fast the 64ft times were. Nearly half a second gain is possible off the start and out of every tight corner due to improved traction.

Finally I have lot of transverse Vaux stuff kicking about so sticking one in the back seems like a cheap way of attempting the RWD thing.

The big question for me is can I still attain fast corner speed with the lump in the rear? The length of the car is it's main problem and so I'm hoping that a bit of roll induced toe, some fat tyres, soft rear susp and an antiroll stiff front will overcome the tendency of the car to swap ends ........ time will tell.

Also at some point I fancy having a crack at a Turbo'd engine so RWD will suit this better.

So 'nope' is the answer to your question

Good to here the General is morphing into something else, I'm sure you can crack the rear wheel drive handling, It took us a while but we can drift ours out of corners now and you can catch it before it breaks away, There is loads of videos of rear wheel drive fiat 500 handling great and they are short wheel base,
Looking forward to see how this progress,
Steve.

Agreed, although the Vaux VX220 isn't a bad handling vehicle so fingers crossed that I can make the Mini work around the tight & twisties too.

I have a cunning plan for some roll induced toe-in which should reduce oversteer in corners, but i'm not sure if this will become a hindrance in a straight line.

One thing for sure, it's fun to play with a new idea rather than battling with the old one.

I'm uber excited by the idea of hanging the rear end out like the 80's icons;

i) Smokey & the Bandit
ii) Starsky & Hutch
iii) Dukes of Hazzard
iv) Cannonball Run
v) Geoff Owen @ Barky

More likely I'll just end up facing the wrong way a lot ........
