dad machined down old mini cam shaft , get rid of some dead weight

nice job, be intresting to see how the old man finds the fitting of the 3 new cam bairings,
the 2 outside ones are simple enuff but the middle one has coused me much stress over the years,lol
you no this will be more usefull and qwicker than your old turdo,lol
well not qwicker per,say but easyer to use,

Can you loose a little more weight be getting rid of the middle bearing? The shaft no longer has the force of the valve gear acting on it, only torque.

Even loose more weight by cutting the shafts between bearings and use some hollow tube welded in its place!

Silly question. How do people put oil in these engines ? No oil cap !!?

Yes that's a in, not sure that your (A) + has one tho!
But the casting has a blank that your old man can burr out and drill/tap for access.
Just needs a baffle to stop oil from coming out of your in funnel,

Distributor hole if you can get past the inlet etc.

Some people have welded a filler neck into the the rocker cover.

Mine has a filler welded into the cam cover... if you decide to do a filler via the transfer case breather then also look at a drain off the end of the cover to meet up with this... the cover can really fill up with oil and take ages to drain down so an extra drain say 10mm above the cover to head join can help...

ok , next item on list was to cut the end of the cam cover off as this will not fit over cam pulleys , so needs to be cut square so it is flush with back plate ,


Test fitting , just needed another 1m ( or 0.5mm my dad says ) off , ( now done )

dad made bottom pulley keyway ,
1) Milled down to get start of groove square

2) then used mutiple hacksaw blades to form grove

3)Then Used needle files and finished off with a 3/16 square tool steel pressed through



Also MegaSquirt ordered up from the States , collected loom while i was up north the other week.

still looking for a mini !

ECU kit has arrived , got stung import duty

also we now have a mini , 998 Auto ... MOT as well ! , might pop down brighton at weekend in it ..

got a deal at L2b on a exhaust manifold



they could not do deals on head gasket
