nice one, i'm having a go at my first hillclimb this weekend at shelsley walsh retro gathering, it's not competitive though - more of a demo. I wouldn't mind having a go at a timed event though, what do you have to do to get in to one?

Engine swaps put you in sports libre which is a pain, because it's hard to be competitive in a mini, unless it's a wild awd turbo beast. Sports libre means full cage, HANS device etc, as well as usual safety helmet, race suit, gloves.

Stock engine classes are much easier, standard road cars are the cheapest entry into the sport.

Had the Mini out at Olivers Mount today.

Ended up 2nd in class (to a very well prepared 16v hot Peugeot 205), out of 5,but I was the only person in class to drive the 85 miles to the event and 85 back home!

Thanks guys, the other cars in my class were a 2.0 Nova, a stripped out MK2 Golf with fibreglass panels and 1900 on throttle bodies and a stripped out fibreglass Manta on Webers. All lightweight race cars whilst the mini is all steel and road legal!

Next outing will be at Harewood 16th / 17th September.

You need a MSA non race licence to sprint and hillclimb.

About 44 I think.

I'm not sure if its changed now but you used to be able to just apply to the MSA for a Non-Race National B licence and you didn't need a medical etc you just filled in the form and sent it off with a cheque. You can probably apply and pay online these days.

Yes, that's pretty much correct!

Apply for a non race licence, join a club, make sure the car to regs, go sprinting!
