Question HELP what is the swift gti gearbox id numbers

i've got a 1993 swift gti k reg with a second hand gearbox fitted by its previous owner. it has the I.D number Zh4. Can any one tell me if this is a original swift gti box? I know someone who is selling a swift gearbox but his has zh7 on it. Which gearbox should be fitted to a swift gti originally?

Hi,

I don't know of part number/ID.
Can you drive your swift at the moment?
If you can take it for a spin and check what rev drop is like from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th.
If you can tell me speed and rpm, I might be able to help.

Cheers

Thanks for that Atchi but i am afraid the car is not road going at the moment.

If you have or any one has got a m11 gti could you please look at your gearbox and see if have any numbers on a sticker that says either ZH4 or ZH7 That would be of GREAT HELP. Thanks for your time

Hi,

I did some search in my book and service manuals.
It looks like you have 3.789:1 diff.
I type in to this web site link below.
http://www.bgsoflex.com/auto.html

with rpm and gear ratio, it worked out that 3.789:1, .757 on 5th makes 3039 rpm for 70mph.

You can use this imput shaft and Gti gear set to make OK-ish for 10" wheel setup.
I think you will have less screaming engine than 4.1:1 but better 0-60 than 3.523:1 diff I got.

If you need mk2 Gti gearbox, let me know.
I got nearly new gearbox from Japan. I think it only did 32k miles(52k km).
I opened it and checked. It cost me about 200...

Cheers
