I was looking over my car at the weekend and I've notice that if you recess the bulkhead for the subframe it does limit the pedal travel a little so you'd either have to mod the pedal or account for it, especially the clutch throw - hopefully the brake pedal would never get close to the bulkhead !!

I realise this has confused everyone but I replied to the wrong topic, sorry Oz.

I have removed my comment from here.

The one I meant to reply to was in the Rover section.

This is not for a standard fitment of the K series frame in a Mini, it is for a custom fitment that allows the frame to be moved further back on the shell.

If you compare a Mini frame to a K series frame you'll see the back of the K series frame is straight from hydragas tower to tower where as with the Mini frame it has a sloping back. This allows the towers of the Mini frame to fit back in to the recesses in the bulkhead that are there for them. The flat back of the K series frame has to be mounted against the bulkhead leaving a gap of about 20-25mm between the recesses in the bulkhead and the towers of K series frame.

In Geachys case he is having issues fitting his steering rack with his K turbo engine because he has had to move the engine further back in the frame so that the turbo is not sticking out the front panel. This has caused an issue of the diff housing fouling the K series steering rack but he has found that by refitting the Mini steering rack he has just enough clearance but others who have tried using the Mini rack with a K series frame say it causes issues with the steering/handling.

What I am suggesting to Geachy is that he could recess the bulkhead and move the whole frame back relative to the engine which he would keep in the same place relative to the engine bay. This would have the effect of moving his engine forward in the frame to gain him back the space he lost for the K series steering rack meaning he could refit that rack and it would bring the handling back as it should be.

I hope that clears this up.

I did eventually find the build

https://www.16vminiclub.com/showthread.php?t=6040

It doesn't have the inside shot so I have to conclude I was imagining seeing that pic
