Default Mot

Hi All,

By chance I was discussing my project with a mutial friend the other day, he is an MOT tester. He mentioned that replacement sils now need to be fully welded as he has been advised to fail cars if replacement sils are spot welded.

On another note we were talking about bulk head mods and was not sure how that would effect the MOT.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Seam welded panels have been required for a number of years at MOT.

Never heard any issues with bulkhead modifications provided it's fully sealed to the cabin.

This seam welding rule seems a little miss-understood by most (including some mot testers). If it is a complete sill being replaced as per the original (not oversills etc) then they can be welded the same as they were in the factory - i.e. spot welded. Seam welding is only required where seam welding was originally done from the factory and where part panels/patches have been welded in (such as floor sections, inner sills etc). Bulkhead mods are fine as long as they are seam welded and don't compromise the structural integrity.
