Default Hi all, first project.

Aido here from Ireland, North East, found my 81 998
Buried in a corner of a breakers/garage on my birthday
And I got notions of a project, I'm quite an impulsive
Buyer around that time.. Its in reasonable shape
There's been welding on the front and the rear needs a bit
Of work, holes around rear arches and below the boot.
She's stripped and on a rotisserie, anyway I want a fast road car
On a budget of around 1500 for donor car and subframe will
Most likely be bodged together by myself, I work as a sparks
in a fabricators so I have access to plenty of gear..
I would love a vtec but there too dear over here, I like the idea
Of a glanza and i found a 00 1.6 g6r corrolla in around the budget
Or a 20v black top trueno, good choices? I didn't see any
Builds and I've only been studying for a month or so now..
Thanks for any welcomes or help deciding!

Hello and Welcome, Where about in the North East are you?

A SOHC Vtec would be my choice on a budget, A driving car can be picked up for less than €400 and you can then sell off all the parts you don't need.

Cheers Keith, I'm from Drogheda, mini's in Duleek and work in Dundalk
Was hoping to go DOHC but could afford a quality subframe if I went that route I suppose. Hoping for over 120hp, any more is a bonus I guess.
You have converted one I see, would be very keen to see a vtec mini in the flesh some time,
What car would you recommend to get complete? Civic, hrv etc?

Ah very good, I'm obviously from Dundalk. Where abouts do you work?

DOHC is a bit overkill in my opinion even though I'm building one I would go SOHC if I was to do it again. 120bhp is no problem. I would get a Civic as young lads wreck them wholesale and need parts so bumpers doors etc would be easily sold.

A mate of mine bought a 98 saloon for 350 taxed and NCT'd a while back and has been using it for work. The plan is to strip it and fit the engine in his mini when its ready.

Yea i'l start looking around, I have a 00 16v 1.4 Astra bout 90hp
But engine mounts don't suit the allspeed frame by my judgement so Il try swap it maybe its the x14xe engine but I'm not 100%. Working in GM steel, access to loads of gear, have a 40ft shot blast container, id love to get the mini in for a Saturday just no trailer.. Thanks for the input, hopefully see you out in your beast someday
