Default MTB 2 Transmission.

Hey Guys,

I got a new transmission and bottom block.

Tranny is YS1 and block is B16B with B16A head but that doesnt matter.

Now trying to drop this into the subframe and it doesnt fit.

Can anyone confirm the YS1 wont fit?

Thanks.

What part doesn't fit ? The casings of the hydro and cable boxes are pretty much identical save for a few small changes. If it is the engine mounting then it is possible you don't have the right mounts to suit the frame ?

Off topic but why put a cable actuated box into a spot where hydraulic already exists ?

I can't speak for the OP but the slave for the Hydro clutch sits right where you'd want to put an rad in a standard round nose where as the clutch actuating arm sits recessed back in to the casing on a cable clutch so there is a lot of room to be gained by going cable provide you can mod the pedal and strengthen the bulkhead.

A halfway house is to use the Clutchmasters internal hydraulic slave - frees the space up but keeps the hydro clutch. This is the way I was looking to go forward with mine.

Thanks guys,

Sorry I didnt get back ive been on the road.

The transmission is cable cause I bought this B16B block that had sleeve work done to it last year and its big displacement.

What I did is place the tranny side mount onto the frame and everything was out of place by about an inch maybe more. But you do have me thinking about the mounts now and I wouldnt be surprised I made another silly mistake like this cause Im not a car guy. I took this on to learn but its always the hard way. No worries. Im away from home for several weeks so Ill have to check later.

Minitech did tell me over the phone the transmission has to be 1994 or post that date to fit.

Ive emailed them to ask specifically what trannies work cause im at a loss here.

Sorry but Iím a little confused - you bought a b16b and it has a cable box on it ?
The b16b is the civic type r engine that came in hydraulic gearbox only.
I really think you should source a 92-00 b series box (all hydraulic) and use that instead

Hi Benjamin.

I bought the B16b with NO transmission.

So I had to buy a transmission to put on the B16B. That transmission was cable clutch.

I understand your confusion.

With that said I got word yesterday from Ben @ minitec saying I needed a transmission 1993 or later.
