If it were me I'd stick with the MX5 calipers an just fit decent discs (EBC grooved and dimpled is my preference as cross-drilling can lead to cracking) and some decent pads.

Yeah I have considered this and it may be the option to go, as far as I am aware I can fit 1.8 calipers which are essentially the same as the 1.6 but with bigger piston sizes, so this will most likely be what I will do.
There is one more option though which is having 276mm discs turned down to 251mm and use wilwood four pot power lite calipers again just an option but something to consider! Once this is all done I can start the final assembly of the rear frame and the front frame, which I believe I have everything for maybe I am wrong?

As per OZ, no need for big brakes on the back
You will end up having to back them right off
Even the MX5 brakes are over kill on a Mini, if you like sparkly stuff better to spend it on the Engine or rear coilovers

I'll agree with the sparkly stuff, just like a magpie I think I will go for the mx5 rear calipers, do you know if they can be anodised at all? I kind of want them to look similar to the fronts if that makes sense...
Yeah the suspension is something I am currently sitting here looking into, with regards to coilovers and dampers I'm currently swaying towards quantum, ohlins or Protech but need to find out more details before I purchase!

If anyone can help with this one as I'm currently looking into it, the front suspension I'm trying to work out what else I need to purchase, so when I get to it I won't be like oh sh*t I need this.
So with regards to the Allspeed subframe set up I currently have
Allspeed frame
Red dot cones
Kad hilos
Force racing top arms
Kad hubs
Allspeed bottom arms
Is there anything missing apart from dampers?

I'm fairly certain you can't anodise ferrous metals. You'll have to paint them.

Another +1 for rear brake overkill. Unnecessary weight IMO.

Awesome spec so far too, I hope that's not coming out of the house deposit fund

You are corect Haz, you cant anodise ferrus as anodising is basically a oxide coating. On ferrous you use a acid process rather than an electrolytic passivation but it comes out black and does not look great.

Yeah unfortunately itís coming out of the house fund race car comes first on this one

I have ordered the rear Calipers this morning Iím just going to go for normal Mazda ones as I have spoken to kad again and they are going to see if they can help with some bits towards it...

Have seen Ohlins used on a Mini over here and there first class.
They were on all four corners and specially built for his mini , only downside is they cost over 2 grand
Protech seem a pretty good set for the money
Think your rear frame uses MX5 type coilovers but you will probably need to run a lighter spring to suit the weight of the mini.

So it has been a while since there has been an update to do with a number of things but I was stopped in my tracks at one point when it came to drive shaft snap rings and cv boots! As stupid as it sounds I have purchased 7 sets of cv boots all claiming to be of the size in which I needed and only one set has and this is the final set that I purchased last week but now I know what I need in future. And when it comes to snap rings I don’t think I have gone to so many places in search of snap rings that fit correctly after getting annoyed with not having the correct ones set via post.


Not one of these in this picture are the correct fitting it is no joke! All were either too loose at one end or too big in other dimensions.


Cv joint fitted on the one and the other with the boots fitted I didn’t manage to get a picture of it being built as I just wanted them done and into the frame!

And in the frame! That’s the frame virtually done all that needs doing now is the brakes but I can get them sorted later on as I’m going to try and fit it to the shell in the coming weeks so I can then move onto the front frame.





I have ordered one of the mounts which oz posted in the Honda chat so that should be all mounts sorted for the front frame! And then it’s just to modify if I get chance I’ll be ordering the dampers in the next couple of weeks
