I personally think it would be sacrilege to do this sort of conversion to a pick up or a mk1 and obviously ex works cars.
They're just so rare and I think that nothing should be done but original restorations to either of these.
Others will obviously disagree.

I can see where you're coming from, and somewhat agree.
But if he keeps the aesthetics reasonably original, then I think it's great that a car like this is kept on the road and enjoyed. - But that's my opinion.

Id say grab the pickup if its a good price.
However the van is cool and you have done a lot of work already.
Depends if you want to start a fresh.

I'm sticking a 1.8 vvc rover in my pickup. Keeping standard roundnose and have some cool ideas in store.

Most fronts are extended 90mm, a 1 inch extension will barely be noticed, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The engine conversion looks good.

How can you expect a pickup to look standard with 13" wheels?

Any more progress on this conversion? It looks like the intake was reversed after it was cut and shortened. does this have an impact as to how the throttle body mounts? JS

May be worth seeing if you can arrange the subframe for room for quattro to future proof it those engines could pretty comfortably overwhelm the front wheels of a mini

How big is the 2.8 vr6 lump compared to the 1.8? And how much work extra would it be to add the 4x4 system?

Considering this thread is from 2012 you are unlikely to get a reply. I assume this project was never finished.

My answer to the question would be 'a lot'. Fitting any none a series engine into a mini is a lot of work. There are off the shelf kits for a few engines but even these take considerable work.

No-one makes a kit for any VAG stuff so you would have to custom build everything.

If you haven't seen it take a look at project Binky on YouTube. It will give you some idea of the work involved in fitting a custom engine and 4wd system in a mini.

The few that have done on it on here have often used the floor pan and running gear from another car, shortened it and then fitted the mini shell over the top (see Hayling Mini's builds). Even the MiniTec Honda kit requires the floor to be cut and modified.

Apologies I didn't even look at the date

I have a history of project builds, I have built a few and been involved with many more
Going right back to the late 90s but looking to get involved again
