Yes , I build my minis so nothing is preventing other things from moving , that's just something to consider , that's open to your interpretation ,
I think if a mini speshalist is letting such dangerous things go it's top priority to shout loud !!!

I have tried to do that as well, but building everything so that the subframe could be removed, that is beyond my capabilities
![]() Hopefully they Will take this seriously, since it is dangerous.. What is worst case, steering completely lost? Maybe i could try to shim it in place, but it wont be properly done that way.... |

No it won't be lost, you can't brake that if you wanted to,
But I don't think that's the point, The point is(I feel) a major suplyer should not/never send out some goods,. Not fit for purpose! Let's say, that I could forgive a faulty horn push or a bent bumper! The 2 aren't the same, I don't think you should bother trying to shim/mend it in any Way, see what they say,

Still no real answer from minisport.
They told me that they are working on it, and trying to find shims so that i can shim it in place... which to me does not seem like a good solution, arent the play/resistance of steering supposed to be measured accurately in a bench to know that the rack is correctly shimmed? Maybe it could be done in place, but i dont even have the tools for the job. |

MiniSport don't have a great reputation for customer service to be honest.

That's exactly what they would say , they just hope you will say yes!
"We will try to find shims to send to you" that's not exseptable, By our trade law if you sell a itam that's not fit for purpose We have to replace it or refund the customer, That's loosely speaking, I don't ring and complain about Things normally, but I would be upset by this, They should take it up with the people who sold it to them, ,

Pipsovich,
IF Minisport can’t help there is a procedure for adjusting the rack preload from Haynes manual, which should remove the play that you see in your vid. No mention of special tools required. For shim stock check out E-bay. From your vid it looks as though the adjustment should be accessible from under the car. From Haynes: 34. Fit a new O-ring seal to the damper yoke and place the spring in position. Add shims equal to the gap measured between the cover plate and housing plus 0.05 to 0.13 mm. Refit the cover plate and tighten down the bolts. Turn the pinion through 180º in each direction from the centre and make sure there is no tightness or binding.
