Hi,
I'm about to start a swift gti conversion ![]() Bought 3 engines, 2 swift gti engines without gearboxs and a standard 1.3 (mk2/3) with drive shafts, dials, wiring loom, ecu etc. (havent picked up the standard 1.3 yet) Going to build my own subframe and it will need to fit in a roundnose without flip front. Got a few question.......... Will the mk1 engine fit on a later gearbox? Will the later non gti ecu work with the mk1 gti engine? Is it worth keeping the fuel injection or going for carbs? Where do you put your brake servo? I'm sure I will have loads more questions as I progress. Cheers Pete Last edited by Pete_H; 23-06-2010 at 08:28 AM. |

Hi Pete
Got a few question.......... Will the mk1 engine fit on a later gearbox? Check over at www.teamswift.net or www.redlinegti.com The answer is probably yes but i'm not 100% Will the later non gti ecu work with the mk1 gti engine? I don't think so as the mk1 had a mechanical dizzy. I may have an electronic dizzy if you need it, i'll look. Is it worth keeping the fuel injection or going for carbs? Stay with injection. Maybe look into megasquirt. Where do you put your brake servo? You will need a a remote servo or you could use 2 pedal boxes and link the 2 with a tube and have the cylinders and servo on the passenger side(like a ford). Someone has done this already on the forum. Most of the answers can be found, it just takes alot of reading. Hope this helps Kev

Hi Pete,
Yes mk1 engine will fit mk2 gearbox 100% sure! ECU will not work due to mk1 dizzy been mechanical. Also, all of plug and connector will be different. If you need mk1 ECU, let me know as I have one spare. In my opinion, going carbs will be easier since you have mk1 engine. As well as that, there is a manifold for sale from Greece and I hard it looks ok and not a fraud. If you are going DCOE weber, Dellorto or solex. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUZUKI-SWIFT-G...QQcmdZViewItem Why do you want a servo? It is better without and it will not be that difficult to drive without it. What gearbox will be using, non Gti? It might work out better for you for Diff ratio. Good Luck with it anyway. If you want to go carbs, you can see mine and it is a bit extreme. I haven't been working on my car for a while due to house move then purchase of house..... When I finish my house, then I will start again.... ![]() Cheers Atchi |

Cheers lads...u have helped alot.
Will be able to get electronic dizzy off the later engine I am getting. Decided to keep fuel injection (think it will be easier to setup). Might put carbs on the other engine. Havent got gearbox yet, so cant start on subframe. Started rebuilding engines while I wait for the gearbox. Will take pics of progress and upload them soon. Cheers |

Started rebuilding engine. Build an engine stand out of dexion (not pretty but does the job).
Both heads look like they are in good condition, but wont know for sure untill I clean them up. Found a cheap gasket set for £30 ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Picked up gearbox, driveshafts, dials etc at the weekend.
Still need a few things like gear linkage and starter tho ![]() Decided to go for megasquirt...I assume that they are about £100 but havent found a good source to get it from. Also stripped head and bought a gasket set ready for assembly. What fuel pump is everybody using? think the swift one is inside the tank so cant get that one. |

for megasquirt contact bill (at) shurvinton (dot) fsworld (dot) co (dot) uk
the price will depend on the version you get and what extras you get. On mine i used and external pump from a V12 Jag, but on my brothers i fitted the Swift internal pump into his Mini SPI fuel tank. But as long as it provides the required 43 PSI fuel pressure then you can use any pump (pretty much any pump from a Multi-point fuel injection car). Really depends on what fuel tank you plan on running. |

I think the prices are £160 for ms1 and £215 for ms2, i asked the other day, I was quite shocked because i thought they were half that price.
I payed £300 for mine fully built with a load of extras and twin coil drivers. For the fuel pump iam using a standard swift pump in the standard swift tank. I have just got a subaru impreza pump for a tenner off ebay, i have heard that they are almost a straight swap. Kev

Cheers
Think I will get a swift pump and put it in a standard tank. (If that will work) Look like you can get megasquirt from US for around £100 for v1 Ground valves in today and was hoping to get head finished off in next couple of days......but mini has blown head gasket ![]() |

Finding it hard to find the bits I need!! Not that many swifts in scrap yards. So I need to look at other cars in the suzuki range.
Any1 know what other suzuki's have these parts? fuel pump dizzy cap speedo cable swift gear linkage (Any1 tried modifying a mini one?) starter clutch 2 engine mounts oil filter and mini bits... non servo pedal box mini driveshafts etc. Got plans to move servo over to other side using hydrolics and convert clutch to hydrolic. Head is rebuilt and block is cleaned up ready to put back together. pics to follow. |

Mocked up spare engine ready to build subframe around. So this week I'm gonna start making a jig for the subframe.
Also started modifying my brake setup to move the servo to the right side of the car...Ive replaced the servo with a lockheed brake master cylinder. Havent checked yet but will there be clearance issues with the manifold and the cylinders? I have seen pics with them there but only in a clubman..so the engine might be tilted more. Need to start looking at the angles of the driveshafts and the tilt of the engine before I start on the subframe. Any1 have any good advice before I start cutting the frame? cheers Pete |
