While out driving last Sunday,a serious knocking sound started from my estate so I slipped it into neutral and it died.I tried to start it and it would not so I towed it home.I started it Monday evening and it sounds terrible so I switched it off and started to pull the engine out.Not sure what I will find but it sounds bad.It still has good oil pressure but I am going to refurb the motor as I only did a cylinder head refurb when I put it in but my question is where is the best place to get pistons, bearings, oil pump and good quality ones.

Hi,
I think oil pump can be only bought from main dealer. Other bits will be internet sites. eBay will be good place to buy from as many OEM or race/rally bits does come on. Cheers Atchi |

Here in Canada, the engine rebuild shops have access to all engine parts at very good prices, I got oversize pistons , rings etc., and also got a new Aisin oil pump for half what the Suzuki dealer wanted

It appears that the bolt holding the cam belt wheel onto the inlet camshaft had worked loose and allowed the belt wheel to rotate a couple of degrees either way but luckily enough not enough for the valves to make contact with the piston. The engine was a little smokey on acceleration and burnt a little oil when driven hard and I have decided to recondition the bottom end.It is already running 0.25 plus pistons and my local Suzuki dealer can get 0.50 but is there any other options on piston size out there and what are people running.

I have +0.5mm high CR Cultus pistons if you would like.
It is 11.5:1 ratio and 74.5mm You can but Honda Civic pistons and they will make similar CR. I think it was P29 or something like that. Cheers Atchi |

Turns out that it was the sprocket wheel making all the racket and luckily enough the bolt had not come out enough to allow the valves to make contact with the pistons. Finally got it back together and up and running 2 weeks ago.Top end was a bit noisy but a handy spin around the road and it was ticking over like a sewing machine,I was lucky enough to get OEM pistons, rings stem seals and bearings for the local Suzuki dealer who still have a great spare parts guy.Hopefully the rings will bed in nicely and I will have many miles of trouble and smoke free driving.
