Hi miniswift. Great work going on here. The pedal box is lookin really good i wanted to make one from scratch with the cylinders inside but after lookin at your pics i may just use a midget pedal box.

Do you have any updates on the roof chop, this is an area that iam very interested in, do you plan to make the roof wider to keep the angles the same or just bend the pillars inward. I was once into the custom mini scene, and have always loved the roofchops but without the raked screen, i now also like the idea of a raked screen from a performance point of view.

How have you reinforced the bulkhead crossmember its hard to see from the pics. I also modded the crossmember but it looks really bad because i wanted to retain the stock master cylinder.

Thanks
kev

If you thinking of this sort of pedal box conversion it might be worth trying a biased modified mk1 escort pedal box which is what I used (slightly modified)

For you Swiftmini!

This is inside the engine bay.
I have weld in 2"x1" steel, I think it is 640mm long.
On top of this steel, I managed to get hold of this steel angle plate which had multi sided angle plate(like 50 pence).

Inside is same and it has been seam weld in to gain more strength(rigidity).

I have now modified my bulkhead again for more space.

For the piller, I have cut out 50mm and off setted inside panel and outside panel.
I could just weld as it was but I would like to weld in more steel section since my seat belt will be mounted close to it.
Also, like you said, I will be just bending in pillers inwards so that I can do without pieces in the roof.

I hope this will help you understand why I'm taking so long time to make this project.

Cheers

Thanks for the pics. The bulkhead is lookin really nice and neat. are you planning on using a strut brace or something to add some strength, or will it be strong enough as is.

The roof should be strong with the box section inside plus it helps lining it up aswell.

I'll update my build thread at easter when i go home and can work on my car. Gonna get out the angle grinder and the welder and have some fun.

Also i think the standard swift pedal box could be modified to use in a mini with the master cylinders inside the car.

thanks kev

Hi,

You won't need strut brace for this car.
It is more than double the strength of original bulk head.
My friend who is press engineer from japan think it will need 600ton press to bend that baby!
I wish I could say the same for rest of the body.
I will be starting to weld body soon.
Will be interesting.... .

I will take more pics as I make progress.

Cheers

Hi,

Today, I fitted my R1 carbs for good with airbox.

I think I will need to shorten the airbox.
It will hit dizzy so I have to come up with better idea.... .
Side view

As you can see, it just fit under the bonnet!

I shall start to do more body work soon.
I have now fitted both front suspension setup and driveshafts.
I can start to make wheel arches with my steel trailer arch.

Cheers

Hi ppl,

It has been while.

I was looking for a Job in N East, so I have been busy driving up and down M1 for more than 3 weeks(I have done 4 trips and each trip is 600 miles).
I have now got a job so I need to work fast for me to transport my Mini to N East...
I started to work on body so that it will be rigid enough to tow it away with towing dolly.

This is end result for D/S rear panel.

It is now raked and chopped to suits 2" roof chop.

This is P/S rear panel work in progress.

This is main piller which I chopped and weld in some tube for reinforcement.

This is front section of D/S roof.

This is what I've done to make it bit stronger.

1" angle plate is weld in where I made some cut and shut adjustment.

I have still long way to go yet but I did some work in 1 hour, today.

I hope to carry on like this for next 2 weeks and finish roof completely.

Cheers

Hi,

Well, car is now parked up in my paresnts' garage in Newcastle.
Good friend of mine came to rescue yesterday and tow it all the way to Newcastle from Gloucester.

This journey is furthest this mini has travelled in last 5 years.

I have loaded both Mini and Volvo with a lot of spares and equipment.

I have been spending a lot of time working on my Mini every night.

I have now welded up front section of roof as well as door has been suitabley modded to fit my customization of roof chop as well as raked screen.

Volvo and Mini along with 2 mates left Gloucester 3pm and we got there 8:30pm.
We had short break and fuel once.

I have noticed my mini is very low to the ground I think I only have 3" ground clearance at the moment and that was before I loaded up.....

I think I have to lift both front and back.

You should have seen on lookers' face.... .

I will be moving up myself this Friday.
I might take pic of it since I haven't done that yet....will see.

Cheers

Hi,

Today I took out my Mini so that I can move more stuff in my parents' garage.
I thought I mays well take pics!

It does look bit squished and it is not photo shopped or anything!

From the side view!
As you can see, it is very low!
I only have 25mm front and 20mm clearance between arches and tyres.
I have a lot of stuff in the car but it will be way too low.
I was going to make my front end flip front but I think I will just make it removeable.
I am thinking of de-seaming completely and rear spoiler from other car...
I have too many spare parts and not enough space.

Cheers

I wanna roofchop.

I think you should do full deseam, roof gutter, along the sills and de-bumpered maybe. The wheels look really good and the arches.
Oh and i would love a ride height like that, my coilovers don't go low enough and theyre the lowered ones.

Have you had any more thoughts on your wiper conversion yet.

Cheers

Hi,

It has been long time not updating my build diary.
I'm still busy working on the house and garage extension!
Anyhow, I have bought mk2 Cortina websto sunroof in white!
So, I think I will paint my upper half of my car white.
I still don't know what colour to pait rest of the body though.

I just snapped my everyday(mk1 swift Gti) car's cam belt.... .
I would rather working on my project but I can't afford to buy another car....

I hope I don't have any bent vales....

Cheers

Hi,

I got bored of not working on my Mini for nearly 2 years.
I have now finished painting the garage floor and I have fitted 4 lights!

I don't have my car down from my parents yet but I will be starting again, soon.
I have started with little thing like an oil sump.

I will be doing little thing like this and hopefully it will help when I get my car over!

Cheers
