You're not dismantling your pride & joy, you're building Stella Evo3 and selling off the bits that you no longer need.

Our FWD XE engined beasties were lots of fun to drive but when entering the MSA events they were rarely competitive due to being too heavy & driving the wrong wheels.

Front engined RWD should be a lot of fun to build, plus if you get the balance right it should make Stella faster and more fun than ever.

If I was you I would aim for a later mx5 gearbox and engine. 6 speed box mated to the 2.0 duratec engine.

Ben
I wouldn't bother with the Ford Duratec Engines as they are utter s***e. The 2 litre is the better of the two petrol engines but its still not great.

They chew piston rings and PCV valves jam. Because of this they end up burning oil which starves the bearings and screws them.

You see cheap MK3 mondeos all the time and it is because of the above.

The later ones are better but once they start hitting more than 100k miles you are living on borrowed time and its difficult to find one with less than 100k on the clock these days.

The new project is way more exciting than the old one and us boys who finished our toys a lot of years ago need new challenges to keep the grey matter in tip-top condition

I'm so happy i decided to go the space frame route. The shell is really rotten around the sills
this is how i started the day off

I started cutting and found my sills rotten and about 5kg's of sand and rust in them

with the floor gone i had to make a temporary stand so i can move it about

That's where i left it for today. i'll finish cutting the bulkhead out tomorrow and try and make a start on the floor. Its good to be back in the garage
