Hi Folks,

I was informed today (Thu 10 Apr 14) that non-operational use of RAF Barkston Heath has been put on hold for the foreseeable future as a result of the need to fly more often at weekends and a stretch in the availability of security, amongst other reasons.

Thus event 1 is cancelled and until further notice the series is on hold.

I will be contacting RAF Cranwell to see what the restrictions are to see if we can work with them to run our future events. This may take a little time so please bear with me whilst I conduct those negotiations.

I will keep everyone updated as I learn the impact of what is going on.

Regards

I'll be the first to say, that sounds like it's been in the pipeline for a while. We (Bill included) could have been told about this sooner, unless I'm missing something.

Thanks for letting us know Bill,

Seconded.
I wasn't organised enough to get the car on the trailer but I had taken to day off work (not that it matters that much as i'm winding down and retiring next week)
I know how much work Bill and the team put into these events and after the same thing happened last year entries dried up, we need confidence that the event is going to happen.
I wonder how the camp commander would feel if his weekend golf tournament or polo match was called off with 48 hrs notice?

Enough ranting, I have now got an entry at Blyton for next weekend, more money, less track time, no comedy loud hailer anouncements but at least I'm competing

I too feel a bit peeved at this, having taken time off work this week to get my car running properly & arranging cover so that I could attend. A bit more notice would have been appreciated. I am somewhat confused that our great armed forces renowned for meticulous planning could let this situation occur. Who do we need to write to in order to get Bill put in charge ?

Although things didn't pan out for me and circumstances meant I wasn't attending. I have to agree that the short notice cancellation does not sit well with entering more at Barkston.

I have to feel for Bill and Sumo who put so much effort into getting people interested in the track days and the sprinting. I think this is going to have a major knock effect for people giving firm commitments to forthcoming events.

I'm not going to throw it at him or anything, it will just be an unexpected unwelcome unpleasant surprise. Bit like we got last night...

Bill sent an email out with a bit of an update about what's gone on, not sure if he wants it posted up on here.
