Striping the inlet manifold, how awkward are the bottom nuts on the inlet? All off now and no visible signs of an air leak. We'll have to see if it is the same when it's all back together. If it is what next? Coil packs?

Should have a air temp sensor on the way (new) and a second hand map sensor.

Tested the coil packs and both give the same resistance readings both within the expected range. Put it all back together with new gaskets and started fine and ticked over ok.
Took it for a run and the first time I opened the throttle misfired etc, but after the first few times it pulled through to 6000+ no bother. The big test will be tomorrow when I start it up from stone cold.

Well, the mystery deepens. Started this morning, nice smooth tick over no issues. I set off through town not getting over 30 to the main road, it takes about five minutes, then a short 50 stretch and onto the dual carriage way. Then taking it easy at just over 3000 rpm the car runs ok for about three minutes then hicks, farts and misses. I pulled into a handy layby and the issues continue for a few minutes then I set off taking the back roads going steady. I'll upload a video.

So I don't think it's an air leak, I also don't think it is the coil packs, lambda has been replaced and water temp sensor, TPS has been changed for another (second hand) and it has brand new 8.5 mm ignition leads . I have an air temp sensor (new) on the way and a second hand MAP sensor.

I expect when I drive home tonight it will be perfectly ok.

Sounds like itís something once itís up to temp.
What ECU do you have? Bit of a pain as you need a matched set but it could be that, AGoaty has had an ongoing issue that turns out to be his ECU, slightly different to this but not worth ruling out, I canít think of anything else it could be, see how you get on after you fit the new sensors.

Cheers. It's a mems 2. Funny but I have the cable and app on my phone for the mems 2 v1.9 and 1.6 and the app for the mems 3 via obd but nothing that will read the 2j mems.

If the sensors don't fix it I'll have to try a new ECU I suppose.

Just went back and had a look at your previous video and realised immediately it was a MEMS2 VVC.
Minion on here has an old MEMS2 ecu of mine that has no immobiliser on it, I can get him to post it to you instead of me if you like and then if it works you can either buy it or a matched set if you want the immobiliser or just send it back to me if it doesnít help?

Do you run a cable Speedo? If yes I have a MG F one which will run the engine. Works fine on mine but I run a electronic Speedo so need a Vi one.

PM me if you're interested.

Quick question is it a case of plug and play, just leaving the immobiliser etc in place and swapping the ECU, even tho' the immobiliser won't work?

Yeah, the ECU on itís way to you has been flashed to remove the immobiliser so it doesnít even try to look for it, just unplug your ECU, plug in mine and it should fire straight up, you speedo may or may not work.

Have you actually changed the spark plugs - sounds daft but it's easy to miss the simple things.
otherwise do you have the fuel feed and return the correct way around?
