knoxy's x16xe estate
i thought it was about time i started a build thread for this project.

its taken me since july 2010 to get this far but in the last couple of months with the much appreciated help from my good friend mr link the welding work is nearly completed.

the basic plan is to have a car that is comfortable an that i can use to tour round in.

i initially planned on doing a swift gti conversion until the first engine i have came up forsale on here. then the way of the vaux was started. im now nolonger using that engine as i bought a donor corsa b sport couple months back that was a runner, the car was stripped or all the interior, wheels, bonnet, boot. the car had left the engine, full loom, gear selector, full nearly new exhaust, dash with all switched and dials and a red top battery. not bad for 65 quid.

im using an allspeed 2010 frame that i got off of dobby (cheers matey) complete with bottom arms and brace bars.

where im at with the project at the minute is the welding work is being finish off all thats left to do is repairs to the bulkhead by the innerwing fit the new scuttle and then decide whether to refit the original clubby front or to get a 2 piece fibreglass one.

anyways onto the pictures as they can say more.

how i got the estate

after a bit of poking around

bit of progress in the middle

the donor car

hopefully in the next couple of weeks i'll be getting the rear subby back from shot blasting so that can be fitted and the front frame trial fitted with the engine.

the rest of the pics so far can be found on my photobucket here

spent a couple of hours on it last night repairing the bulkhead around the passenger bonnet hinge bracket. an then trial fitted the front scuttle.

thought i'd also take a pic of the vaux column fitted to the mini rack using the collapsible bit from the corsa. all i have to do is end the clutch pedal over by 10mm to allow the UJ to turn with out knocking it

and heres a couple of pics of the engine sat in its frame

there's always one.....lol...;)
whats wrong with drums....??? aslong as he hits the brakes a mile before he plans on stopping the'll be fine

drums, im using an anchor matey open back door a throw out. lol.

i have a set of metro hubs that still need rebuilding after being de-rusted an paint in work. also a set of 4 pot calipers to go with them, although i now need to replace one as its been fitted to the gt.

looks very good, wish i just replaced the whole floors on mine as it's been a lot of work to fit just the inner sill to first floor ribs instead.

Will keep watching this with interest :)

i think we are on to about 10kg + of welding wire as we are seam welded all the new panels

knoxy 06-11-2011 05:56 PM

doing the two half floors has probably been a god send for us as im sure trying to repair what was left would of taken far longer. having the spit was a major help as well no welding upside down :D

taking the floor out has also meant new cross member so rather than fitting an original one or even a cut down one we opted to fit the cross member out of a 2002 fiesta that a mate was breaking at the time. its also meant that i can fit the seats from the fiesta giving me various seat options. i currently have fiesta flight seats in there now but would like a set of fiesta st seats or a set of black leather ones but thats for when its on the road. the ace bit is i now have adjustable lumber support and the seat still goes up and down as it would in the fiesta. if i had a sun roof i could drive with my head out the roof. lol

heres the cross member anyway

and the seats

bit of a small update,

had a bit of a play on saturday after finishing work due to not having the motivation to do any welding i thought i'd play with the dash from the corsa. well after cutting a good 50-60mm off the passenger side and about 50mm from the front edge bringing it back to the inside of the screen vents, the dash fitted however it meant that the dials where right behind the steering wheel and the middle are of the console would be roughly where R-1-3-5 want to sit so that no good. ive now decided to scrap the idea of using the dash and im going to have a go at making my own up incorporating bits from the corsa dash such as the instrument pod an switch areas also want to still see if i can fit the corsa clock and temp gauge in the middle as well.

i also took the clutch pedal off as the lower 'UJ' from the corsa column was hitting the bend on the pedal. i've taken it into work today and rebent the pedal with the same bends but about 40mm higher than where it was originally keeping the pedal where it was to begin with.

small update. i got the driveshafts back from aband today. looks like hes done another great job. all i need now is the vauxhall cv joints if anyone knows where i can get some from?

philster 23-11-2011 07:18 PM

Looking good ;)

Just waiting on my bottom arm pins then I can measure the shafts accurately and get them off to him :D

knoxy 23-11-2011 07:22 PM

you having them made or cutting some down? i may have a spare pair over at the estate if you need any ( thats if i didnt cut through them stripping down subby's).

philster 23-11-2011 07:56 PM

I'm getting adam to turn me some down, then I need to weld a plate on the end so it bolts up, was the best way I could think of doing it.
