Exhaust Manifolds 160 v 143

Hi guys,

I'm redoing the exhaust on my mini, I have my 143 manifold/downpipe which I've been using since the conversion. I also got a 160 manifold/downpipe. I was told the 160 is better flowing, but the issue I'm having is that the 160 one is much bigger physically.

What I'm asking is will the 160 really make a big difference over the 143?

Rest of the exhaust will be 2" diameter with a 3" tip (yob :p)

Two things. First is that it is physically bigger but only width ways so wouldn't think that will matter to you.

Second is the 4 bolt 143 had a huge amount of weld on the inside of the twin holes. I opened these up a vast amount when I built Phoenix. This alone must make it flow better.

I have both here if you would like me to actually measure the distance from the block.

once the welds have been opened up on the 143 manifold the real world difference will be very little. I have tried a few different manifolds - 143 then a 160 (didn't notice any real difference), then a 340r large bore stainless which gave good top end but lost torque in the low to mid range, and I now have a modified janspeed mild steel manifold which seems to give the best all round performance.

Thanks guys, that confirms what I was thinking! The 160 sticks out the front alot further than my 143 one so think I'll just get the die grinder out
