I picked Henry up this morning, the drive from Birmingham to Camberley in Surrey was painful but there wasnt a single issue at all with car which was a bonus.

He's a standard roundnose sleeper with a 1.8 VVC(145bhp).

Some piccys:

Unfortunately my heavy foot may of blown the clutch to bits this afternoon!

Whilst showing off to a friend I gave it the beans and I'm not surehow but it managed to actually grip and stay in a straight line for the first time today and whilst flat out in 2nd, I dipped the clutch and went for 3rd and got nothing, we think its just the centre of the clutch has given up and spinning seperately to the rest of the clutch, gonna drop the box out next weekend and change the clutch for an AP item and then I'll get a vid up showing the hilarious amount of torque steer, I just love it, its great fun now, but I will eventually have to do something about it to make it useable, but for now, I'm just gonna keep laughing my ass off every time i stampon the loud pedal.

Plans for the car are to make the power I have useable, then get some more. Tidy up the interior so it looks as original and tidy as the exterior, tidy up a couple of loose ends and put him on a diet whilst keeping him looking standard, I will have a couple of small hints as to what lurks under the bonnet but nothing really obvious. ;)

Got a bit of a manic day tomorrow, but I will try(weather permitting) to get some better pics.

That is incredible. The interior is great!

Its the little finishing touches I like, like the AA badge and the Halifax tax disc holder.

wow wish i had the money when weeman had this up for sale....looks well tidy
anyway i always thought the 1.8vvc was 160bhp

InstantCustard 21-04-2012 11:09 PM

I was quite surprised when I texted him to find out he still had it, I thought it would have been long gone.
Early VVC from the MGF is 145, then a couple of years later the 160 was released.

ow i see didn't know that...145 is still some good usable power

definitely, was enough to keep me on my toes this afternoon, the torque steer is like nothing I've ever seen before, the wheel alighnment needs doing and the corner weights need sorting really, but I'm too busy enjoying it to care at the minute.

Does look tidy that. Shame about the clutch letting go hope its not the diff packed up in the box.
Also dowt its 145hp get it on some roller and i bet its well over 150 ;)

Haven't checked that yet, but when you lift off the clutch you can just feel the smallest bite but nowhere near as much as you should have. Gonna jack it up and spin the wheels later.

Doubt it will be that serious by sounds of it you've broke a shaft.

InstantCustard 22-04-2012 12:01 PM

We're pretty certain it's the clutch after a better inspection just now.
Andy's going to grab a clutch from work and we'll sort it next Saturday.
Lost count of how many times he's called me a fat footed oath!

evolotion 22-04-2012 09:07 PM

itll just be the centre out the clutch as you diagnosed. i used to go through them at an alarming rate. in the end i welded the centre spine bit and all the sprung parts together to make a solid clutch centre. both LUK and AP. all as shite as each other lol but what a fantastic car, seriously love that!!!

its wheel hop that seems to kill the clutch centres btw. if you feel the wheels skipping, lift off :) a smooth burnout is fine though.

InstantCustard 22-04-2012 10:07 PM

Thanks for the advice Evo.
I didn't know that, but I'm glad I know now.

Burnard 22-04-2012 10:20 PM

That does look awsome, veryyyy tidy but...

Its not very standard looking...

Its got clubman rear bumpers on it...

I do know someone (not me) who would be verrrry happy to swap those for a couple of chrome round nose ones (could probably even have the powder coated for ya :) )
