Lightweight B18c4 Vtec Turbo

I thought it was about time to post a build thread with regards to the mini. So i bought the mini late december 2016 when i went to look at the mini it was just a stripped shell which has been shot blasted and started to be repaired, it was only 25 minutes down the road so i didn't mind the journey. I eventually bought this shell after umming and arring about it.

I thought i had taken some pictures of the shell when i got it into my garage but apparently not! These are the only ones i have and that is it on the recovery truck and what is needed to be welded

So after looking into what needed repairing i set about ordering panels so i order from David Manners in Oldbury, I couldn't get just Heritage because of what was in stock and so i got a selection of heritage and magnum. I decided that i would go for external hinges and the mk1 mini rear lights so ordered mk1 inner a panels and the mk1 conversion lights and a set of mk1 lights.
After ordering these panels i decided i wanted to go lightweight so after setting about looking into what i wanted to do with the shell and the overall project i decided to give arc angels a call and after a number of phone calls, emails and face booking i decided to order the panels off of them and to say the least I could not be happier with the quality and the customer service!
I ordered a Carbon Fibre roof but i wanted a roof scoop as well so I ordered that from OBP Motorsport, this was then sent to Arc Angels to be bonded into the roof. I also ordered Carbon Fibre exposed Weave Streetwise doors with the locking mechanism and Carbon Kevlar Door cards. I decided whilst ordering these parts i may aswell order the rear door cards and parcel shelf. Whilst looking for lightweight parts i found a Carbon Weezel boot Floor and an Arc Angels Exposed Weave boot lid.

The last picture has my recaro hans spg Pro Racer Seats which will be going into the mini as well!

So now that I have all of the panels excluding the front end and rear valance/Diffuser i will start moving onto the welding! The reason for not starting the welding yet is because i am unsure on what frame to use for the front, I am either looking into an allspeed frame or a KJB Fabrication, the reason for being interested in the KJB Fabrication is because it is virtually identical to the allseed except for the adjustable engine mounts would would you guys suggest to be the better option? I would also like to go 4wd again it would either be a KJB frame or one off of AWD, I have got to say i do like the AWD frame as it looks a lot tidier but again if you guys could help with that it would be greatly appreciated!

On to the engine, as the title says i am looking into doing a turbo vote, i am aware that this has been done on multiple occasions, but i want to be able to put down between 400-500whp! This is one of the reasons at looking into the awd so i am able to put the power down, the car is intended for streets and either hill climbing of drag racing so i will need to be able to put the power down so if you guys could advise with this problem it would be appreciated!
So the engine build, this is the spec which myself and friend have worked out (he drag races hondas);
Head
Skunk2 Stage 2 Cams
Skunk2 Adjustable Camgears
Ported and Polished
Arp head bolts

Intake
Skunk2 Ultra street Intake manifold
Skunk2 70mm throttle body
Induction kit I am unsure on because of space

Block
Arp Stud Kit
Darton Mid Sleeves
Cp pistons 9.0-9.2
Manley Turbo Tuff ConRods
Crank Lightened and balanced
Acl Bearings

Exhaust and Turbo
Schuband Autoworks Ram horn Manifold
44mm wastegate
Precision 5858 or something similar
Schuband Autoworks downpipe and system

Fuel
Skunk2 Fuel Rail
725cc dynamic injectors
Walbro 255 fuel pump

Ecu
Either megasquirt or omen, The reason i am looking at megasquirt is because a close friend works as an engineer for megasquirt here in the uk!

Thats it for now hopefully you guys can help!

Regards
Alex

Hi Alex, thats some impressive carbon you have here :), nice stuff

1994alex 13-06-2017 09:32 AM

Hi, AWD thank you! There is still a bit more carbon to go, E.g Front End, Dash Board and a few other bits and pieces!

I have made a couple of phone calls this morning with regards to welding i have been quoted 500 for the one and 1500 for the other but the one which is 1500 wants to replace the complete floor and rear quarters! Seems a bit steep to me but would it be worth it?
Both quoted me to weld all panels, cut and re fab the bulkhead for the inlet manifold with a miglia style dash. Is it too good to be true for 500?

Thats about 14 hours work for 500 pound?? i think it will be more like 40 hours work. for 500 they also supply the panels? i couldn't do it for that price

1994alex 13-06-2017 02:08 PM

I'm supplying panels to both except when they doing the rear end to cover the frame and miglia dash

cheers there will definitely be more to come!

Right been thinking about the rear frame a bit more! After seeing the 4wd frames iv seen that you have to use the mazda brakes and hubs but have been thinking if it is possible to use mini ones instead! so i was thinking that normally would go crv diff then crv inner cv joint, honda to mazda drive shaft, mazda outer cv joint, mazda hubs flange then brakes. so i was thinking would it be possible to the same but with mini parts! the reason for thinking this was because i wanted to use the KAD 6 pot big brake kit up front 10.4 discs then mad brakes on the rear 8.4 discs and 4 pot brakes.

Why not just use a Mini front subframe bolted in the rear and lock off the steering with GTM parts

1994alex 19-06-2017 08:14 PM

It could work but housing the crv diff could be a problem!

Oz 20-06-2017 07:46 AM

See here - this is a Civic Shuttle rear diff but the idea is the same

By the look of it they came with a b series as well

Right so I rang up allspeed this morning after multiple attempts at calling them, I managed to get through, I rang because I saw the new design of their frame which will be ordered as soon as I get paid! So then I'll be able to get all the welding and cutting done and hopefully the roll cage, I am going to get in contact with rightline motorsports I am lead to believe the built and wallers roll cage so I am hoping they may be able to give me some advice on the cage and the rwd system

Ordering the frame today before I place a full order I am wondering if I need allspeed slower arms and tie bars or have you guys used other brands instead?

Little update, so I have ordered the allspeed frame, that should arrive at the end of the month/start of next month and have also won a custom cages miglia cage on eBay! Never been fitted still brand new in the packaging! Does anyone know where I would be able to get someone to weld this together as I do not feel confident enough to do the welding on something so important?
