Hi, having just encountered torqx bolts on the clutch pressure plate I was wondering if there are any other tools not found in the normal tool box that I'll need to strip and rebuild the engine/gearbox unit?

The Torx bolts are only on the IB5 type of clutch plate.

The rest of the bolts are in a normal socket set.

I don't use a clutch alignment tool. I fit the clutch plate and just finger tightened the pressure plate. Fit the gearbox. You can tighten the pressure plate bolts through the starter motor opening.

Having done this quite a few times now I actually find it easier than trying to align the plate first.

Thanks, I'll just go for the cheapest I can find then:cool:

Do you know if the IB5 pressure plate is the same as the PG1?

Iíve always used a clutch alignment tool, bit rubbish the first time you use it but once itís set up itís simple enough, Iíve just pinched an input shaft from Andrew so I can cut it down and have a dedicated tool for the job, I see how Andrewís idea works but Iíd prefer to use a tool and have easier access to all the bolts rather than having to turn the engine manually to get to each bolt.
You want an E12 torx socket for the headbolts.
Thereís a camshaft locking tool for locking the timing in place when you do a belt change.
Canít think of any other tools that are non standard.

The flywheel, clutch plate and spring are all needed to be swapped. The clutch release bearing too. They are different sizes. You can try the plate on the IB5 box input shaft. It doesn't fit the PG1.

Iím confused!
The pressure plate has nothing to do with the input shaft, it just bolts to the flywheel.
Are you talking about the clutch disc?

The IB5 pressure plate as aka clutch spring is a different diameter. The flywheel for a PG1 has a totally different bolt pattern.

The clutch plate, as in the bit that wears out, and fits the input shaft of the gearbox, has a different spline.

If I am not mistaken, the IB5 has 17 splines. The PG1 has 18.

This is why you need the flywheel, and 3 piece clutch.

I used a broom handle to centre my clutch, worked a treat :)

Ad says 1.4 only. I guess it must for the 1.8 VVC pulleys too? Only asking as as I need to get one (or do people use 2 so you can lock both ends?)
